Aim of Symposium
One Health symposia have played a pivotal role in shaping the global One Health movement. A meeting held in China in 2014 established a global network of One Health researchers. A second symposium, in 2019, further strengthened this collaboration, culminating in The Pearl River Declaration. The Declaration called for enhanced regional cooperation to address emerging health threats across the Asia-Pacific. These milestones continue to shape the One Health agenda and global health security strategies.
Featuring distinguished One Health researchers and practitioners from around the world, the 2025 International Symposium for One Health Research and Practice aims to provide a platform for participants to both discuss the concepts and implementation challenges of One Health, and to share successful projects and strategies from around the world, to enable and facilitate more effective collaboration and action. It will culminate in the creation of The Pengcheng Declaration (鹏城宣言). The Declaration calls for the strengthening of cross-regional collaboration and commitments and provides concrete steps and actionable solutions for better tackling current and future global health security challenges from emerging infectious diseases."
The Importance of this Symposium
Humanity faces increasing global health challenges, in both scale and complexity. As the One Health approach shows us, growing health security threats from emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases need to be addressed through inter-sectoral collaboration between a diverse range of professionals with complimentary skill sets, knowledge, resources, experience, and networks.
The 2025 International Symposium for One Health Research and Practice addresses this urgent need by bringing together specialists from diverse sectors, such as public health, animal health, agriculture, food safety, and environmental science. These include One Health leaders, scholars, and policymakers, as well as new partners from AI, health economics, funding bodies, and community of practice networks. Through timely discussions and the development of practical strategies, this Symposium will create a dynamic platform for productive engagement, action, and cross-sectoral partnerships to drive One Health initiatives forward.
